Exploring Phang Nga

Skipping Phuket for an adventure in Phang Nga Province

Story by Dustin Johnston December 8th, 2015
Ao Thong beach in Khao Lak, Thailand.
Time for a road trip!
One of a handful of stops on our waterfall roadtrip/adventure.
3. Do not swim white being drunk and disorderly.
Lam Pi waterfall with as long of an exposure as I could get with the f-stop stopped down.
Enjoying the fauna around the waterfall.
We had to hike a little to get to the upper tier of the waterfall.
It's nice to have these waterfalls all to ourselves.
This bridge led to a small hike up alongside the waterfall.
Our private paradise.
Looking down over the falls.
SLR Selfie!
Carol pets every animal she can. I'm surprised this little lizard was so chill.
Post sunset on the Thai Mueang beach, just before we had an incredible seafood dinner.
Our favorite restaurant in town. We went here three nights in a row.
Dinner with my Thai host family from 2004 (and one begging dog.)
A Thai Police boat that was swept more than 1 km on shore during the 2004 tsunami remains and a reminder of that horrible day.
A small "fish swamp" on the way to our next waterfall.
A small hike on the way to Tam Nang waterfall.
Our first glimpse of the dramatic falls.
Friendcation group photo!
This 7 Eleven had a decidedly more rural feel than the ones I'm used to at home in the States.
I found it interesting to watch them paint, but also that they're building it where it will always be obstructed by powerlines.
Visiting the school at which I used to teach, Bahn Faita.
The main house where my host family lives. I used to live in a small separate bungalow on another part of the land.
On the road back to Phuket.
I don't think this would be allowed in the U.S...
Who needs a mini-van??
Why tie it down when you can ride in the back with your long poles of bamboo?
View from the bridge crossing over from Phang Nga to Phuket.
The King and Queen are everywhere; this is a display at the entrance of the Phuket airport.
